Industrial and architectural
designers work with a lot of metals, one of which is brass. Because it is a
hard but malleable material, many find it easy to work with. However, when
taking on major brass projects, whether it be for construction or architectural
design needs, you need to know the right working tools.
Cutting Tools
Even though brass materials are
very accessible, you still need to take care working with it. Knowing how to
cut it properly helps you make better use of the materials that you have. You
could, of course, stock up on supply from your trusted metals supplier, but you
still need to maximize it so you don’t have to spend more than necessary.
Artisans and craftsmen often
recommend cutting brass with a hacksaw, and then following it up with filing or
sanding. Another option is to use a rotary tool with a cutting wheel. For brass
square tube, specifically, there’s a tube cutter that you can work with,
although you should be careful since it can cause indentations.
Alternative Methods
Some other designers better
experienced with working with these kinds of materials also recommend using a
fine wood blade. It can still work just as well, despite it being meant for a
different kind of material. Scroll saw is also one other viable option.
Just remember, for every time you
cut the ends of a tube, you need to properly sand it down first so as to polish
it. With the right quality materials and skills, you should be able to make the
most out of your brass project in no time.
