3. Copper Nickel
A high
content of nickel gives the copper nickel its name. Although technically called
“copper nickel,” it is still classified as a bronze alloy. The amount of nickel
varies anywhere from 2% to 30%, but even the smallest amount increases the
alloy’s corrosion resistance. Aside from this, copper nickel is also known for
its thermal stability. This property alone makes it the perfect alloy for ship
hulls, electronic components, and even some equipment used for marine
application.
4. Phosphor Bronze
Another name
for phosphor bronze is “tin bronze” because the alloy contains anywhere from
0.5 to 1% tin. It is called phosphor bronze due to its standout component of
0.01 to 0.35% phosphorous. The combination of bronze, tin, and phosphorus
creates an alloy of amazing strength, exceptional durability, a high resistance
to fatigue, and a significantly low friction coefficient. With the addition of
zinc into the composition, the alloy is also resistant to corrosion. These
properties make phosphor bronze the best when used as springs, washers,
bellows, and so many other uses.
5. Nickel Brass
Not to be
confused with copper nickel, this alloy is also referred to as the nickel
silver. It is made with a combination of tin, copper, and nickel. The higher
nickel content creates that iconic silver coloring while tin adds to the
alloy’s anti-corrosive properties and tensile strength. The most common use for
the alloy is for food and beverage equipment, musical instruments, and even
equipment used for optical procedures.
