Bearing Bronze Sheets vs. Aluminum Bronze Sheets

Bronze sheets refer to a variety of alloy sheets made with copper as the base metal. While tin is usually the main additive, in some cases, manganese, aluminum, phosphorus and silicon are the main ingredients. Bronze sheets and bronze, in particular, have been popular for centuries due to their strength, corrosion resistance, thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity properties.

Today, there is bronze available for any application, since the alloy can be molded and customized as per your requirement. The two most popular bronze alloys are bearing bronze and aluminum bronze.

Aluminum Bronze

Aluminum bronze sheets are strong, corrosion-resistant, and tarnish-resistant as well. In fact, aluminum bronze can survive in high temperature rates with low reactivity to sulfurous compounds. Aluminum bronze is also highly resistant to corrosion in the sea, and can prevent the spread of marine organisms such as barnacles, algae and mussels. These properties are the reason aluminum bronze sheets are mostly used in applications where resistance to corrosion is required.

Bearing Bronze

Bearing bronze sheets are mostly used for bearing and bushing applications. This type of bronze can easily be machined and has long life in applications where wear and tear is the main concern. Compared to aluminum bronze, bearing bronze is not as resistant to corrosion.

There are other forms of bronze sheets as well, but these two types are the most popular since they can be used for a variety of engineering purposes.
