Maintenance Maximizes the Benefits of Brass

Brass is a type of metal that has many beneficial properties. It is durable, malleable, and aesthetically pleasing, which is why it can be used in a variety of applications, including fashion, musical instruments, and decorations. Whatever project you are working on, though, it is not enough that you know how to utilize brass. You should also learn how to take care of it.

Maintenance of brass materials is not difficult. You just have to determine the type of brass you have so that you can figure out the best way to clean and take care of it.

Plated Brass

Though plated brass can rust due to its steel base, this material does not really tarnish, which is partly why so many designers pursue brass sales for their materials. Also, you can easily restore damaged plated brass with a simple solution of soap and water. Instead of using a traditional polish, you can wipe the affected area with a soft cloth and the solution. This will help remove rusts or blemishes.

Solid Brass

Tougher restoration techniques can be applied to solid brass. A good polish, such as Brass or Twinkle, can protect this alloy from tarnishing further by applying a thin film of these polishes. Before polishing, however, you need to give it a good wash with soapy water. The polish will then act as a shield between the raw metal and air, helping keep the shine and gloss.

Brass possesses a certain beauty and appeal, which can be ruined if the metal is not maintained properly. Regular maintenance can help prolong the life of the material, as well as keep it in good condition.
